I have called MDI home since I moved here from Virginia with my daughter Kira in 1995. Working with and learning from Anna Durand in my early years of cooking prepared me (kinda) to go into the world catering and I opened Sassafrass in 2002 in the West Eden Commons in Town Hill. Food, flavors and farms! These a few of my favorite things. Working in gardens with my family when i was young, canning the bounty of those harvests and making white peach ice cream with the fruit my meemaw harvested all laid the foundation of my love of working with fresh local food in the dishes that I make at Sassafrass. I feel lucky to live, work, serve and collaborate with the community here on this magical island, what talent and inspiration surround us.
